Treatment
This show is about gladiators far back in ancient Greece and how they had to fight wars against other villages and cities, it allows the audience too see what life was like back home for the women, and what it was like for the men to be out travelling too war, fighting and training.
Most wars would last up to a month, many men will be dying as you get to know them, which will leave many other actors coming in, this helps create an emotional effect to see that character disappear after getting to know and like their personality.
Characters will be introduced by starting out at a grave with many soldiers standing around an important figure known as the emperor who is being buried and they each have a flash back of the war where he was killed seeing each soldiers attitude on the battle field. They then each go back home to their wives and children and we get to see their attitude with their family. It is then that the audience would have already chosen their favourite characters. It should help keep them inclined to find out more in the next episode.
Now that the audiance has learned who the main characters are in the first episode, their will be one episode dedicated to each character every week, there are two episodes in a week. The next episodes will each show each dedicated warroir there preperations for training and leaving to go to a war.
Dante is the son of the important figure who was the empire of there home city, Dante will be taking the thrown as the new emperor, he is a lot different to the old emperor in a way that he does not respect the city and its people, he is mad about power and is a ferocious fighter, he has no family of his own and is cold and heartless, he is the type of person who WILL shoot the messenger.
It is rated 18 and over because of the strong bloody violence there will be. We plan to keep it very realistic like most soap operas and to take away the movie feel so it doesn’t come across as too much of a fantasy. This wont effect the amount of viewers we get as much as what a movie would be affected because parents may still allow their children to view the program from home, it will be shown around 9-10pm and twice a week, Monday and Thursday. On Itv1
Interesting idea; mixing the conventions of a Soap Opera with a place as unlikely as Ancient Greece is a big risk, I can't see how it would work although it seems you have planned this out thoroughly.
